Soul Food Fundraiser for SHS Cheer!

Soul Food Fundraiser for SHS Cheer!

Each year, there are new additions to the SHS Cheer team but lately, there has been a decrease in how many people try out for the cheer squad. Perhaps this is due to the costs students are faced with if they want to cheer: two pairs of bloomers, two pairs of scrunchy socks, one pair of cheer shoes, one bow, a sweatsuit, a bag (price varies depending on which bag you would like), two t-shirts, two pairs of practice shorts, and pom-poms.  Returning cheerleaders have to pay $250 and new cheerleaders have to pay around $450 or more. Co-captain, Mia Smyre, a Crossroads Early College student, decided she would give back to the SHS Cheer fund and ease the burden of the expensive payments for anyone who decides to try out next year.

Mia, along with Kenya Williams, will be selling Soul Food plates for $12. The plates include but are not limited to:

Fried chicken
Baked mac and cheese
Collard greens
A slice of pound cake.

All the food will be homemade by both of the participants’ families. Mia will also be hosting a tailgate before Statesville High School’s Football Game on Senior Night. Anyone who would like to buy a plate or donate to the cause is welcome to scan the QR code on the flyers posted around the school. Pictures of the flyers are also posted on social media for adults who would like a plate or to donate.

When filling out the google doc please ensure all the information listed is correct. Sales run from September 24th through October 15th. Purchases can be made by cash, cash app, or Venmo. Everyone who fills out the google doc and has paid for their plate will be contacted via the number in the google doc to receive their raffle ticket to get their plates later on.

David Rucker, Mia’s father, will be catering wings for the tailgate event. We hope you will come out and support our Cheer Squad and Greyhound students. More details about the Tailgate event will be posted on Snapchat, Facebook, and Instagram.
