The Statesville community remains distraught after last night’s shooting which left three young children shot, one who died from her injuries. Two children were shot in front of a home on Wilson Lee Blvd. around 7p. Another shooting occurred an hour or so later just two blocks away where the third child was shot. The children were ages 7, 8, and 10.

These senseless crimes are robbing our community of its future and our families of their hope in a world of peace. A little girl, full of joy, innocence, laughter, and smiles, can no longer dance or sing because someone decided her life had no value.

Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “It’s not the violence of the few that scares me, it’s the silence of the many.” Statesville Police Department is asking anyone with information please come forward. Statesville Police chief David Addison addressed the issue of a silent community and the idea that coming forward means snitching by saying, “that is the greatest lie ever told because if you do that, you’re only allowing our community to go into a violent turmoil.”
